Sam Tabar: New York Lawyer Exemplifies Secret to Success in the Legal Field
The law profession is one of the most competitive industries which requires hard work and years to be able to establish a name. Sam Tabar, a graduate of Columbia Law School, proved that with talent, hard work, and perseverance, he can accomplish greater heights. Just four months after finishing his degree, CrunchBase shows us that Tabar joined Skadden, Arps, Slater, Meagher & Flom, LLP as an associate. He handled hedge fund management, labor issues, investment management, and regulatory and compliance issues. While in the middle of his rising career at Skadden, Tabar left for Hong Kong to join the PMA Investment Advisors. Shortly after, he was promoted as the firm’s Managing Director and Co-Head of Business Management. His work at PMA involved high-profile investment accounts including a $2 billion hedge fund.
After years of continuously improving PMA’s assets, LinkedIn shows Tabar moved to Bank of America Merrill Lynch as the Director and Head of Capital Strategy for Asia Pacific. He engaged with hedge fund clients and provided them with counsel and introduction on endowments, pensions, and foundations among others. In 2012, he left the firm to work as director at Adanac LLC, BVI. He is one of the people behind the success of American startups Thinx and Verboten. A year later, he became a senior associate at Schulte Roth & Zabel, LLP which specializes on hedge funds. During his stay, the company’s hedge fund increased to $103.8 billion, the highest in a five-year period according to Hedge Fund Research, Inc.
The 41-year-old lawyer and capital strategist said that since the Asian industry is continuously growing, companies are vulnerable to regulatory screening. Investors have become more demanding, which fortunately provides greater career opportunities for legal advisors. Throughout his career, Tabar worked with various firms and companies across different countries. His philosophy is centered on keeping the clients happy because he believes that customer satisfaction is key to establish a good name. Due to his expertise in the financial aspect of law, it was more convenient for him to transition from one career to another. Aside from his native language, he is also fluent in French. When not dealing with hedge funds, he enjoys traveling and hosting events. Currently, Tabar works for FullCycle Fund in New York City.
